Fri Sep 25

Just a little update: Last night was our friend Austin’s birthday, and it was by FAR the best night we have had. We walked over to the other apartments around 8:30 and had a party at Joe and Austin’s apartment and then went out to Planet 50 with about 25 of us, and then I ventured off with Joanna, Fabio and Michele :) Great night…..Now we are going shopping for Backpacks to prepare for our backpacking adventures soon to come!!! Enjoy the few pics!

Soooo, the last time I wrote was 2 and a half weeks ago-so I have some catching up to do-bare with me! The week after my last post was quite eventful-On Monday the 7th after class we went to a mexican themed restaurant for a meal they call “Appertivo” here..Its like a little meal before dinner from around 6:30 to 9, some people actually go for dinner there also. It is usually about 7 euro and you get a drink and a plate for the buffet. They serve appertivo at just about every single restaurant in Italy, which is great because its so cheap and you can find it where ever you go! The next day after class, Jaclyn and I went to get dinner at the Mayflower, which is a restaurant about 10 feet away from campus. Then, of course, we went to do a little shopping near the Duomo :) The Duomo has the best shopping near us! Thats where i bought my Louis Vuitton bag ;) The next night we went to the Old Fashion Cafe. That was A LOT of fun…we met a lot of people that night. It was 10 Euro to get in and you got 2 free drinks with that!

On thursday there was an event called Fashions Night Out hosted by Vogue. It is one of the biggest events during this time of the year because of Fashion Week and all of the new collections of clothing coming out. It was held near the Duomo (again). When we got there we didnt really know what to expect, but the first store we went into we had to get a stamp on our hands (still not quite sure why) but it was PACKED. They served champagne and alcoholic drinks and most stores had extra discounts for the night. We all bought a limited edition Tshirt that says “Fashions Night Out Milano 2009” on it…40% of the proceeds go to planting trees in Milan :) I also got a really nice Roberto Cavalli bag for school. Walking back to the area of the Duomo after shopping a bit, we stumbled upon HEAVEN ON EARTH! (See the first picture above) Male models in suits; first in black, and then they switched models and they were all in white. it was perfection. When we got near the Duomo we sat at a little bar/cafe and got a few drinks. This guy that Jaclyn met at Old Fashion named Robert (who is absolutely beautiful) met up with us with him friend and they sat at the bar with us.

The weekend of the 11th to the 13th, the girls and I went to Genova, which is in Northern Italy, its a beautiful city with a very popular Seaport. We spent 1 night and 2 days there, and it was beauuuutiful. We went to the beach (which was covered in rocks-NO SAND, ouch) the weather was perfect, especially the 2nd day. I was baffled by the amount of speedos and naked women. I was even more confused by the kids playing with shovels in the rocks…….? Dont you think they are a little deprived? What are they building, rock castles instead of sand castles?! The sad part was, they looked like they were enjoying it! I wanted to steal one and bring them to the Jersey Shore and see how they would react to sand! At night time (obviously during the night we stayed) there was an event called the White Night. Apparently there was a holiday in Italy that they were celebrating, of course we had no idea, and I show up wearing an all black dress….but thats besides the point. It was so crowed. On top of that event, MTV europe was there and there was literally an Italian Warped Tour going on! The city was flooded with italian teenie boppers haha it was classic. We wound up waiting 45 minutes for a table for dinner, but the food was worth it. Plus we had a few beers while we waited, so it wasnt so bad ;)

My next week here was I think even more entertaining than the first. Megans birthday was on the 1st of september and we decided to go out to the canal. We stayed and drank some drinks at this place called the virgin cafe, which is where I met Michele….an adorable italian guy who is the most respectful sweet(did I mention adorable) guy ever! Anyway, this past week kim and I met up with him and his friend fabio again at Mayflower. It was appropriate that we went out with them on the night of the 15th because as soon as the clock stuck midnight it was officially kims 21st birthday! So I was with her as she consumed her first LEGAL (well, in america) drink! The next night for kims actual birthday we went to a restaurant that we’ve been to before with NABA that we absolutely loved. Kim polished off an entire bottle of wine hahaha yeah she had a good night. The rest of us split 2 bottle between 6 of us and got these amaaazing salads. It was so nice to finally eat a salad, its been far too long!

On the 17th we went back to old fashion cafe..this time I met a guy named Ermal. He was quite a good dancer ;) the next morning we slept in and later on went down to the fair grounds from the metro and went to a leather exhibition. We were personally invited to go by our NABA coordinator, glenda. it was so exciting to be able to go because its an exclusive event just for buyers and stylists to see next season shoes and bags. Its where the buyers come and choose what they want in their stores for the next coming seasons. We clearly looked so out of place (six 20 year old girls walking around amongst 500 older business people)haha it was a great experience though, considering its my dream to be a buyer! the next morning was rough, we had to wake up and be at the police station to get our permesso (the permit to stay in the country for s months) by 830!! The process was so long we were there for 5 hours! It was a lonnnng day, but once again, we went to the duomo afterwards haha we ate dinnr at a mcdonalds (which are everywhere here) and then shopped a little.

The next day, which was my favorite day of that week, jaclyn and I went to the spa!!! My god, it was amazing. It was my first experience at a spa, and let me tell you it was an EXPERIRENCE ha! We were naked for 2 hours in front of 4 women who gave us full face and body exfoliation and full face and body massages. It was unreal. We will definitely be back there again soon! After the spa we came back to the apartment, only to find out that anias dog had been put to sleep back home, and stacia got pick pocketed on the metro! So as jaclyn and I had a flawless day, everyone else was miserable. But later on that night it got better: ania and megans friends ryan and kyle were in milan for the night and we all decided to go back to the canal. We went back to the virgin cafe (and guess who met us there? Michele and fabio haha) we came home around 2ish and stopped at this stand on the corner of the street our apartment is on. We like to call it “wawa” because its where we stop to get our drunk munchies lol! We all got sandwiches and walked back home.

Which leads me to yesterday and today. Yesterday was pretty uneventful. Class from 2 to 5 and then back to the apt to make dinner and study for our italian midterms (which are today at 2) so I guess that means I should go head back to studying! Ill post again tomorrow hopefully! Enjoy the pictures :)

Been a tad busy-Heres an update :)

Sooo I’ve been in Milan for almost 2 full weeks, and I officially think I am never going to leave. It has been the most AMAZING experience so far. The first week of being here was a little rough because of the fact that we were all so jet lagged. The school made sure to keep us busy the entire week though, so we were pretty much forced to get adjusted to the time change. During that week we went on tours of the city and we also went to the Duomo. (Which was absolutely, hands down, the most emotional/intense day of my life). The church was stunning. In order to go inside you have to have your shoulders covered and pants at least to your knees. Once I walked into the church my heart literally sank. It was HUGEEE, and honestly the most beautiful thing I have seen. I lit candles inside for my family and prayed for a while, I actually started crying, thats how intense the feeling was inside there! We then climbed up to the top of the church, which was more than 300 stairs along the outside of the Duomo and there were no exits-Once you started up the staircase, there was no where else to go but up or back down, but once you get to the top and see the picture perfect view, its WELL worth it. We spent the rest of the day shopping :) and just touring the city some more. During the next week classes had started, which entailed 3 hours of italian class a day, and a few other random 3 hour long classes. The italian course I am taking is helping a lot, i find myself using italian more and more every day even when I am just talking to my friends…Its such a good feeling becoming more familiar with the culture here. A few days ago we went out for megans birthday, which was quite eventful. We went down to the canal about 20 minutes from the apartment. At the bar we all had some drinks and met these 2 italian guys name Fabio and Michele. Its unreal how beautiful the men are here. They are flawless. Anyway, the rest of the week we had class and would just come back to the apt and make dinner and relax. Last night, however, we went to the grand opening of a club called Hollwood, and before that we went to a bar called pitbull (which kim and i went to once already the beginning of the first week)…it was 25 euro to get in Hollywood, but SO worth it. You got a free drink when you walked in, and once we got inside we saw the dance floor flooded with male models. Kim and I made friends with a few models who are going to be in milan for 4 months (like us) and then met 2 guys who modeled for gucci and other high end designers. Yeah, it was a classic night. We left around 3:00 am, after quite a few shots and mixed drinks, although we danced out all of the calories we consumed. Today, we had to wake up at 9 am to be at school by 10. We had to go on a class trip to a museum, but it was over by 1 pm so we decided to walk over to the duomo again from corso como. So, needless to say, we are pretty exhausted. I have not consumed this much pasta in my entire life, but I must say, pasta in italy somehow has a better taste to is than back at home. Alright, time to shower, my feet are covered in Milanese dirt! Ciao!

Wed Aug 26

So that previous post was supposed to be put up on the 24th/25th haha, but i was a little delayed! Ive been in italy now for about 2 days (technically) and i already feel at home! its such a different world here, but in a good way. we havent been too far from our apartment and “campus” but the real traveling starts on friday to Lake Como, which i can not waiiittt for! its going to be absolutely gorgeous. ummm our apartment is huge, it has 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, a kitchen and a huge hallway. its so colorful and spacious….the only downfall is that its not air conditioned! its brutal outside but not as humid as it is in jersey, (thank God) but its supposed to cool down soon. today was our first day on campus and its a pretty traditional looking school, but still beautiful. we’ve been to 3 different restaurants so far and none of them were similar to the last. haha ive been doing pretty well with my italian, at least im trying! the pizza here is faaabbbulous! :) i could really get used to this food :)

NAP TIME! enjoy the pics from yesterday and today!

Hating this plane ride…….havent been horizontal in about 15 hours :(

So I’ve been on the plane now for about 5 and ahalf hours…longest flight of my life and we still have about an hour and 45 minutes left. Things got a little bit emotional at the airport as I said goodye to my entourage: dad, mom, chris and dave. It wasn’t as over the top as I expected though..I thought for sure I would have been crying hysterically but all I did was shed a few :) hehe…sleeping on the plane is absolutely impossible. Between my ears popping and the change of temperature I can’t keep my eyes closed for more than 20 minutes at a time. I’m sitting in the middle isle between kim and jaclyn. I’m actually thrilled about it, due to the fact that since my dad called and confirmed my flight so early my seat was all the way up in row 16! (Which ultimately could have made my flight a lot more enjoyable, but I’d rather be in my current situation that up there with a creepy smelly weird guy snoring next to me) so yeah, we are back in row 32. Not too bad though. I just can’t wait to get there..even though we are all going to be soo jet lagged because when we arrive it is 8 am there! So technically this was our “bed time.” Oh well it’ll be worth it and back to normal in nooo time :) my fingers hurt cause I’m on my blackberry so I’m guna go read vogue with kim!! Arrivederci!

A little bit further down the line…

So I guess I forgot the website I made my blog on…Hence: not posting a single thing since april 20. Its been a while and the countdown is now at 20 days. AHHHH, I am so freakin’ nervous. However, I went checked out a map of Europe about 15 minutes ago which kicked the nerves and just got me VERY excited. Heres the list of places I am DEFINITELY visiting:

  • Italy (All over)
  • France(Mainly Paris)
  • Spain (Mainly Barcelona)
  • Austria
  • Germany(Oktoberfest) :) :) :)
  • Switzerland
  • United Kingdom
  • Croatia
  • Hungary
  • Czech Republic (Prague)
  • and finallyyyyy-Ireland!

I guess those are a few good reasons to get excited ;)

I bought a new suitcase that is HUGE….next step is to pack it. Anyone think they can help me? I am going to need it.

Mon Apr 20

growing more anxious by the day…

So, I’m about 126 days away from flying into Milan. And due to the fact that I bought a huge Let’s Go Europe book yesterday, I feel like I should be leaving tomorrow! Someone tell me how to make this time feel like it’s going by so much faster?
